The History of NEIPP

 In 1961 the New England Institute of Professional Photography (NEIPP) was first imagined by John Hobbs of Massachusetts and George Champagne of Rhode Island. John had been a long time instructor at the PPA School, Winona, in Indiana, which at that time was the only professional photography school in the country.

With the help of like-minded photographers from the other New England states:  Lewis Daniels of Maine, Francis Sullivan of New Hampshire, William Bartlett of Vermont, and Henry Misiaszk of Connecticut, together they made the first NEIPP happen in 1963. In 1965, with 3 years of having a very successful school, the founders then formed a partnership with the Professional Photographers Association of New England (PPANE), which provided increased support for the new school and gave them the ability to issue PPA Merits to instructors and students. NEIPP resided at the University of  New Hampshire (UNH) until 1983 when it was relocated to Mount Marie Conference Center in Holyoke, MA due to growing size. It remained there until 1994 when it was moved again for the same reason, the demand for more and more courses. The new site was the Sea Crest Resort in Falmouth, MA on Cape Cod, which has served as NEIPP’s home for the next fourteen years. 

In 2007, a decision made by the Trustees to move the school to the beautiful Ocean Edge Resort and Club in Brewster, MA, also on the Cape. This Resort, as beautiful as it is, was not beneficial to our goals, The decision was then made to return to the type of facility that would be able to accommodate our school. NEIPP 09 will be held at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, this facility is owned and operated by the same people we had at the Sea Crest Resort, and they know what we need. We look forward to continuing our relations with the people who took care of us, for such a long time.

 In all the years that NEIPP has been in existence trustees have worked hard to keep to the triple goals of providing the best education accompanied by a great learning environment at the best price possible. The interest of the students has always been at the forefront of all decisions at NEIPP.

In 1995, it was brought to our attention that then current NEIPP logo was not recognized by some of the younger students. It was a “Press Camera Lens”. The NEIPP staff set out to change the logo, which was in place since 1961, to a more recognizable one. All eight members of the staff, came back with ideas, as to what the logo should look like, the result is the present logo.

The NEIPP logo was changed for the first time in 1996.

 The NEIPP logo represents “Who we are”, and “What we do”.

The northern part of our logo has mountains as in the three northern states, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

 The southern part has the ocean as in, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

The Lighthouse represents the “Lamp of Knowledge”, it is a beacon, broadcasting “Education”.
