Staff and Trustees

Serafino R. Genuario, PPA Certified, Cr. Photog.

NEIPP Executive Director

401-738-3797 salneipp@aol.com

Sal started his photography business in 1963, as a part time business. At that time he worked as a Machinist, Toolmaker, Forman, and a Manufacturing Engineer, for the US Navy and Brown & Sharp Manufacturing Company. In 1982 Sal decided to pursue Photography as a full time business, my business flourished, he went from my home studio to 1800 sq. ft., then 3800 sq. ft. and finally 6200 sq. ft. With over 2000 weddings under his belt Sal decided that he had enough weddings and pursued the High School Senior market, quickly he  became the City’s official photographer for the three High Schools. Without the students having to come to Genuario Studios, he still photographed over 85% of them, 700 to 800 per year. After neck surgery in 2005, Sal knew he could not keep up what he was accustomed to. In 2006 Sal retired after 43 years.

In 1983 Sal was asked to join the NEIPP team as Trustee from Rhode Island and went from Trustee to Treasurer and now serving as the Executive Director. During this time Sal served as President of PPARI and PPANE, and also served on PPA’s Education Committee.

Sal truly believes that Photography is the greatest profession in the world, and through education, photographers will exceed their expectations.

Board of Trustees

Connecticut Trustee

Michael Spiegel, PPA Certified, Cr. Photog.

(203) 756-1113  photowed@aol.com

Mike started taking photos when his son Michael III was born and has not stopped.  Now 28 years later, he has attained the distinction of being one of a handful of Nationally Certified Photographers in the State of Connecticut and was also awarded the degree of Photographic Craftsman from the PPofA.  His first experience with NEIPP was when he took Monte Zucker at the Sea Crest and hasn’t stopped going.  Wanting to get more involved in the photographic community, he started working with the Connecticut Professional Photographers Association as the Print Chair and has been steadily going up the ranks.  He is currently the Vice President of Programs and Publicity.  Around the same time he also started to get involved more with NEIPP.  He started out by being elected President of the NEIPP Alumni Association and has brought them back to being a strong supporter of the NEIPP family.  When Connecticut needed to replace their Trustee, Mike applied and after a very nerve racking interview (Mike’s words) he was selected and has served for five years so far with the last two as the Chairman.  Currently in his last year on the Board he would like to continue working with the NEIPP administration to continue to bring top notch education to his photography peers.

She has served on the MPPA board of directors for several years holding the positions of Secretary, Vice President and most recently President.  Donna is also a member of the Professional Photographers of Canada.

New Hampshire Trustee

George Hawkins, PPA Certified, Cr. Photog.

(603)-279-8855 george@hawkinsimages.net

George took a very small part-time business from his residence, renting about 300 square feet, next to a very up-scale restaurant. Soon the spaces were far too small.  He’s been in two different locations about a half-mile away on Main Street since 1980. With two employees, they are busy with about 45% being gallery and custom picture framing, continuing to go out for many family portrait sessions of three generations together, some social events and high school senior sessions, as well as some commercial type work.

George was remembering his first PPANE convention, held in New Hampshire way up north at the Balsams Resort and the installation of the Association’s first woman President, Maggie Rother Nocca, in 1978!  His first NEIPP class was in 1980 with Len Levy, then held on the campus of University of New Hampshire.  He has attended NEIPP at all of its locations.

George has served many positions, including President, with NHPPA, receiving the National Award in 1987.  He served on many PPANE committees over the years. He has served on PPANE’s Nominating Committee for the past seven years. He was awarded Craftsman Degree in 2002 at the PPA Imaging Convention in Atlantic City. During his PPANE Presidency in 2001, he was asked to the task of “Patriot” during the NEIPP session, and did the same the following year.  He became a NEIPP Trustee in 2005, and was voted to continue for another three-year term. He believes in the importance of continuing education.

Rhode Island Trustee

 Vic Dvorak

(401) 322-1105  vicdvorak@cox.net

Vic hails from Charlestown, Rhode Island where he enjoys the many local photographic opportunities! Working from his home, he began his wedding and portrait photography business over fifteen years ago. Other careers have included information systems management positions at several fortune 500 companies, executive director of the Salt Ponds Coalition, an environmental non-profit group dedicated to the preservation of the Salt Ponds of southern Rhode Island, and general manager of the Shelter Harbor Inn in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Believing that continuing education and constant improvement are essential to any business, Vic attends many of the PPARI, PPANE, and PPA educational sessions.  He participates regularly in PPARI’s print competition and recently received a Fuji Masterpiece award. After hearing so many wonderful things about NEIPP, he attended Kevin Kubota’s NEIPP class in 2007. He was so impressed with the class and NEIPP that he immediately signed up for a week with Don MacGregor in 2008.  Guess what?  He has already registered for 2009!  Vic volunteered to serve on NEIPP’s Board so that he can contribute to NEIPP’s evolution and to help introduce the NEIPP experience to others.  According to Susan, Vic’s spouse, Vic is never without a camera in his hand, except when asleep.  Travel and nature photography are his secret passions. Susan is always waiting for the last shot to be taken!
